Rainbow Baby Newborn Photography Session Pittsburgh

Nothing is more exciting than standing in your bathroom and staring down and seeing two pink lines.  In that instant, you start dreaming of a future for the little life growing inside of you.  Visions of chubby baby rolls, first steps, first day of school, learning to drive, getting married and even grandchildren!  Unfortunately, not all moms get to experience the joy of childbirth following pregnancy.  For some, their dreams end with the tragedy of losing their precious baby.  I can’t even imagine living through the incredible pain, sadness and heartbreak that comes along with losing a baby.  Some women never get to experience the joy of holding a baby in their arms.  Others, eventually do go on to have another baby.  This is what it means to have a rainbow baby.

What is a Rainbow Baby?

A rainbow baby is a baby born shortly after the loss of a previous baby. This term is given to these special rainbow babies because a rainbow typically follows a storm, giving us hope of what’s to come.  Having a baby after losing one brings an onslaught of emotions.  For those moms who do go on to have another baby they may feel angst, worry, fear and even guilt at times.  These moms may worry that having another baby means they have moved on and are over the loss of their first baby.  But a rainbow baby does not mean that a mom is over the loss of her previous pregnancy.  Rather, a rainbow baby is symbol of healing, renewal and love.
