My 5 favorite things about a newborn session

Capturing New Families:

Each and every one of my newborn sessions is unique.  Each family comes with their own experiences that brought them to being new parents.  Some find themselves in the role very easily, others have had to work really hard to become parents.  For this reason, I’m drawn to newborn photography.  No matter how the new family came to be they all have love in common.  Anyone who has a child knows that there is no stronger love than the love a new parent has for their baby.  Capturing that love is indescribable!

 

 Capturing Fleeting Moments:

It’s so cliche but the newborn stage is so fleeting!  The tiny squeaks, the little squirms, tiny fingers and toes, little yawns – and my favorite part . . . when they stretch and their backs arch and their little bum sticks out – – gah!!  When you are only getting a few hours of sleep a night it may be hard to remember how your baby looked,how their hair curled, how tiny their little toes were.  That’s where I come in!

 

Newborn Perfection:

I don’t think there is anything more perfect than a newborn baby.  I find myself in awe every time I think about how babies are created.  From one one cell that divides billions of times, all of their “parts” develop.  There really is nothing else in the world as miraculous as that!  That miracle is not lost on me.  Even though I have photographed thousands of newborns I find myself humbled before each one as I contemplate their perfection.  Staring into the face of a newborn and realizing they are 100% innocence and love – I mean, how can you not love that!

 

 I Get to Snuggle Tiny Babies!!

After talking with or emailing my clients before their session from the moment they walk in the door I feel an instant connection both to them and to their precious baby.  I feel like a proud aunt and instantly want to pick up and love on each baby.  It’s not uncommon for me to say that I want to keep a baby or two or three . . . I guess it’s a good thing my clients get to know me a bit before the session or they would call me the crazy aunt!  There is often a bit of downtime in a session if baby needs a break from modeling and that’s again where I get to gently rock, shush and soothe babies back to sleep so the new parents can just continue to relax.  I mean – does it get better than that!

 

 I Create Priceless Memories:

One of the best feelings is knowing I’ve created memories that will last a lifetime for a family.  Parents and I often joke about how we are going to embarrass the baby at their high school graduation by showing their adorable newborn pictures in a slide show to all their friends!  I get to do that as a newborn photographer – – I get to freeze time, I get to capture something that ordinarily would have passed and parents may regret not taking the time to document it.  It’s not unusual for my clients to get teary eyed when they view the final images that I deliver to them.  I often get notes back saying how grateful they are to have the images and how much they will cherish them.
