Welcome to my Pittsburgh, PA photography studio! When I first started dreaming about having my own studio I would scour Pinterest and drool over other photographers’ beautiful spaces. Would I ever be in a position to create my own space? Well, I’m happy to say that I have been in a beautiful photography studio for 4 years now! I can’t believe I’ve been in my space that long and haven’t yet given you all a studio tour. So here goes . . . enjoy the Julie Kulbago Photography studio tour!
Studio Tour – the vision
When I first started designing the studio I knew what I wanted – – a place where parents would be comfortable and able to relax, while still being able to watch their newborn baby as I work. I also wanted a few different shooting spaces so that I could move quickly and easily between posed newborn images to lifestyle family images without having to break down and set up equipment. I wanted a place (out of the heat) where older siblings would be comfortable playing and hanging out so that new parents aren’t stressed that big sibling is making too much noise or unhappy.
This studio renovation took a little longer than originally planned but I am so happy with how it turned out. To be completely honest there is still one more space that isn’t yet done and as soon as I finish that I will update this post.
Studio Tour
My studio is in a renovated barn that was originally built in 1947. While the roof and siding have been updated you will see on the inside some of the original floors and walls.
This is my main shooting area. During a newborn session, I use the table for all of my “posed” newborn images.
The bed and egg chair are used for sibling and parent shots. Having three separate spaces allows me to move quickly between posed work and more lifestyle type images. If I have a newborn who isn’t sleepy at the moment I can switch gears and move to the sibling/parent shots.
I don’t want you to have to worry about a thing . . . my studio is equipped with a changing table, diapers, wipes (and hand sanitizer!)
I also offer a client wardrobe for moms & littles during maternity or newborn sessions because I know the last thing you want to be doing is shop after having a baby! My dress collection is constantly growing (and hopefully I will remember to update these images 🙂
This is my sitting area for families. It is is right next to my shooting space so you can relax, grab a drink or snack, flip through a magazine and watch me work with your baby.
While mom and baby are upstairs getting their pictures taken, I have a separate area designed for older siblings. More snacks and beverages of course, a chalk table, trains, stuffed animals, paper, stickers and of course an abacus – – because a play area is not complete without a beautiful abacus! Can you tell I have a small addiction to chalkboard paint?
While kids are playing, dad gets to just relax . . . doesn’t get any better than that!
Well that’s it for now! I hope you enjoyed the tour. I would love to talk to you further about photographing your family. If you or someone you know is expecting, I would love to be considered for your Pittsburgh newborn photography session. Send me an emailand we can chat about creating a one of a kind session.
