The age old question . . . “when should I take newborn photos?” The quick answer is when baby is less than 2 weeks old. The long answer is “anytime” . . . well, maybe that’s not a long answer but let me explain.
When should I take newborn photos?
If you ask any newborn photographer they will say “when baby is less than 2 weeks” old. Why? Because when babies are new they are super sleepy and can be molded into all of those adorable smooshy poses! With a true newborn I can move them from pose to pose and they will happily sleep right through – provided they are full and warm.
What if baby is older than 2 weeks?
That’s all well and good but what if you weren’t sure you wanted a session and now your baby is older than 2 weeks? No worries! I can still capture adorable images of your baby . . . they might just be a little different than a typical 2 week old newborn session.
Swaddled Images
We would most likely to more wrapped images. Babies up to 3 months LOVE to be swaddled! It really helps them feel secure and even if they are awake I can capture super cute photos. I mean – how cute are these images??
Macro Images
Oh how I adore capturing images of all the cute newborn parts! Lips, eyelashes, toes, fingers . . . they grow so fast . . .you will cherish seeing how little they were! And is there anything cuter than a little spit bubble??
Parent Shots
And don’t forget about images with mom & dad! These are always by far my favorite because as moms we seem to take so many pictures but we aren’t often in them! Remember, babies love to be swaddled so we can do a mix of tight swaddles and loose swaddle if baby is content.
Summary
So there you have it! Yes, it is ideal to photograph a baby when he/she is less than 2 weeks old but now you see that we can really do it much later as well!
